Besides, if you were really using album sales as the first of three criteria, you would have certainly included at least ONE Simon & Garfunkel song off of Bridge Over Troubled Water (one of the best selling albums of all time).Īlso, I would definitely change the description to – a list of the best acoustic songs ever *recorded* – IF you are going to allow covers. Better to measure performance on the historical singles charts, if you’re going to factor in sales at all. Historical album sales aren’t a very accurate measurement of the quality of one song off of an album, particularly when the quality of older songs is better reflected in the amount of times they’ve been covered by other artists, and not as much by the amount of money the original album made (really old songs weren’t even sold on “albums”). I appreciate the variety in this list, but I’m not sure I understand the criteria you’ve used. The trick to handling the drunks who yell out requests is to know some hard rock, classic rock, country, and traditional songs, even if that is not your personal choice. I’ll look into some of the other songs on the list for some of the youngsters that wander into the bar. I can also drink a beer or three and still play them well. None of these are particularly challenging to play, but the crowd likes them, and I enjoy singing them. Of the hundred or so songs I rotate through my set, here are some that get the best response in a primarily 30’s – 50’s age group bar: Blue on black – Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Billie Jean – the Chris Cornell version, Me and Bobbie Mcgee – the Kris Kristofferson version (I’m a 52 yr old white dude, I ain’t singing Janice!), Wonderful tonight – Eric Clapton, I love this bar – Toby Keith, Hotel California – Eagles (I play in Am instead of Bm) Ramblin man and midnight rider – Allman brothers, Come Monday – Jimmy Buffet, You are so beautiful – Joe Cocker, Knockin on heavens door – Dylan/Clapton, Family tradition – Hank Williams Jr. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down – The Band Sittin’, Waitin’, Wishin’ – Jack JohnsonĨ6. Living in Your Letters – Dashboard Confessionalĥ7. Just a Song Before I Go – Crosby, Stills & Nashĥ6.
